Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to dine with President Trump at the White House

Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei is drawing attention from multiple directions this weekend. After being parodied on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live, he is scheduled to have dinner tonight with President Donald Trump at the White House.

Axios first reported the planned dinner, and the meeting was later confirmed by a person familiar with Amodei’s schedule.

The dinner is expected to be the first private meeting between Amodei and Trump. The two have recently taken sharply different positions in the debate over artificial intelligence safety.

Amodei has called for slowing the pace of AI development, or at least moving forward with greater caution. Trump, meanwhile, has claimed without evidence that criticism of AI is a Democratic hoax and has pushed to describe the technology as “super intelligence.”

The tensions predate this latest disagreement. Earlier this year, the Pentagon labeled Anthropic a supply-chain risk after the company sought to place limits on how its technology could be used. Anthropic is challenging that designation in court, though some other officials in the administration have taken a more welcoming stance toward the company.
